On 14th May 2019, Mavi Deniz ordered 20 pcs of 12 Barrel marine oil spill kits MAVI DENIZ to several vessels at Jeddah Port, Saudi Arabia.
MAVI DENIZ Spill Kits are designed to cope with many oil and chemical spillages, from ports, harbors, ships, shipyards, and heavy industrial plants to small engineering workshops.
The Mavi Deniz Oil Spill Kit is a marine oil spill response measure designed to be deployed quickly and effectively with each ship’s response plan, as required by the IMO, MARPOL, and OPA ’90. The sorbents in the Oil Spill Kit are produced in various forms that absorb up to 25 times their weight for spill control, cleaning, maintenance, marine, and other applications.
Regulation Requirements
According to the IMO resolution A535/13 and the Oil Pollution Act (OPA) of 1990 section 4202, it is recommended that vessels of 400 Ft (122 meters) and less shall have sufficient equipment of sorbent materials to handle removing 7 barrels (1100 liters) of oil while larger vessels must be equipped to take care of 12 barrels (1900 liters) of oil. In-land oil barges must be able to deal with at least 1 barrel (159 liters) of oil. Regulation 37 of MARPOL Annex I requires that oil tankers of 150 gross tonnages and above and all ships of 400 gross tonnages and above carry an approved Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP). The plan states that vessels under 400′ require a 7 Barrel (1100 ltr) Marine Spill Kit. Ships above 400′ require a 12-barrel (1900 ltr) Marine Spill Kit.
