Mavi Deniz agrees with Cosmos Shipping to deliver oil fence containment booms to their oil tanker GALAXY ECO, IMO: 9010931.
M/t GALAXY ECO is the new Cosmos Shipping AD – Varna vessel. With this oil-chemical tanker, the Company won a tender from the European Maritime Safety Agency ( EMSA ) for an oil spill response vessel and, upon request, shall fight against oil spills in the Southern part of the Black Sea.
By the signed Contract, the Shipowner shall perform drills with the crew, vessel, and spill recovery equipment every quarter (every three months) and participate in a multinational exercise at least once yearly in open sea conditions. When the vessel is not engaged with tasks under the Contract, m/t GALAXY ECO shall act as a bunkering barge supplying vessels with fuel oil, diesel oil, etc., at the Bulgarian coast.
Since then the vessel was built in 1993 and employed as a chemical carrier in the North Sea, meeting high industry standards.
EMSA provides the oil-recovery equipment, and an experienced and professional Bulgarian crew staffs the m/t GALAXY ECO.
During the ceremony to raise the Bulgarian and EMSA flags on 16 June 2017, the ship was named m/t GALAXY ECO. Following the traditional rituals, the vessel’s godmother Mrs. Bojana Prodanova broke a bottle of champagne onto the ship’s bow. The vessel was blessed by a priest: the Owner, Capt. Plamen Prodanov handed the ship’s documents to the vessel’s Master wishing Godspeed and the crew. The ceremony proceeded with an exquisite cocktail at the Passengers Terminal at Varna East Port.
